Swimming pools and water features face water pressure from both sides: internal hydrostatic pressure when filled, and external groundwater pressure when empty. Constant chemical treatments (chlorine, ozone) degrade standard waterproofing coatings.
Application Selection Guidance
Specify Geobit high-performance, crack-bridging 2K cementitious waterproofing systems or polyurethane-based liquid membranes. The waterproofing barrier must be applied on the concrete shell before laying mosaic tiles. All construction joints, pipe inlets, and lighting niches must be sealed with swellable hydrophilic gaskets and flexible epoxy-polyurethane adhesives.
Apply 2-component flexible acrylic polymer-modified cementitious coating (Betoflex CM / CM 588) or liquid PU membrane (Betocoat PU) in two coats (1.5mm to 2.0mm DFT) across floors, extending minimum 150mm up vertical walls.
Seal expansion joints, parapet flashings, and perimeter terminations with high-movement single-component polyurethane joint sealant (Betoseal 1PU, movement +/-25%) or 2-part polysulfide sealant (Betoseal PS PG).
Embed high-tensile extruded PVC waterstops (Betostop ICJ/ECJ/IEJ/EEJ) into concrete expansion and construction joints during pouring to stop high hydrostatic water ingress, and reinforce internal corners with fiberglass mesh (Betotec Mesh 65).
Apply Geobit high-penetration bitumen primer followed by torch-applied APP or SBS modified bitumen waterproofing membranes (Betoflex 4P/5P or 4S/5S, 4mm-5mm thick) with 80mm side laps.
Spray pure elastomeric polyurea coating system (100% solids, rapid curing <10 seconds) for heavy-duty commercial roofs, bridge decks, and high-traffic deck applications.
Fix floor and wall tiles directly over cured waterproofing membrane using polymer-modified high-bond cementitious tile adhesive (Betotile CM 11/16/17).
