Wet Area Moisture Splash & Humidity Challenge
Wet areas experience daily water splash, high humidity, soap chemicals, and expansion/contraction at joints and drains. Leakage causes dampness, mold growth, efflorescence in adjacent rooms, and damage to structural slabs.
Application Selection Guidance
Specify Geobit flexible 1K/2K cementitious coatings or elastomeric acrylic membranes for wet areas. These systems are easy to apply around pipe sleeves, drains, and floor-wall joints. Concrete joints, wall corners, and pipe penetrations must be reinforced with elastomeric joint tapes and flexible sealants prior to applying the membrane.
Apply 2-component flexible acrylic polymer-modified cementitious coating (Betoflex CM / CM 588) or liquid PU membrane (Betocoat PU) in two coats (1.5mm to 2.0mm DFT) across floors, extending minimum 150mm up vertical walls.
Embed high-tensile extruded PVC waterstops (Betostop ICJ/ECJ/IEJ/EEJ) into concrete expansion and construction joints during pouring to stop high hydrostatic water ingress, and reinforce internal corners with fiberglass mesh (Betotec Mesh 65).
Apply cold-applied thixotropic rubberized bitumen emulsion (Betocoat RBE 1000/15/10) over basement retaining walls, footings, and substructures as a damp-proof chemical barrier against aggressive groundwater salts.
Apply Geobit high-penetration bitumen primer followed by torch-applied APP or SBS modified bitumen waterproofing membranes (Betoflex 4P/5P or 4S/5S, 4mm-5mm thick) with 80mm side laps. Protect the cured membrane assembly using semi-flexible asphaltic or polypropylene protection boards (Betoboard / Betostick PB) prior to backfilling or screed placement.
Seal expansion joints, parapet flashings, and perimeter terminations with high-movement single-component polyurethane joint sealant (Betoseal 1PU, movement +/-25%) or 2-part polysulfide sealant (Betoseal PS PG).
Fix floor and wall tiles directly over cured waterproofing membrane using polymer-modified high-bond cementitious tile adhesive (Betotile CM 11/16/17).
